11 questions for our new Online Marketer.

A few weeks ago our marketing department was strengthened with online marketer Reinoud. We ask him 11 questions to get to know him better and to test his knowledge…
1. Let’s start simple. Who are you and where are you from?
I’m Reinoud Visser, I’m 23 years old and currently living in Stadskanaal. That’s about half an hour’s drive from Emmen.
2. Very good. How did you get into the Online Marketing profession?
That started when I was about 17. I got involved in a project where we were going to sell bathroom furniture in a webshop based on dropshipping. I was going to do the marketing, and that’s how I ended up in the wondrous world of “ranking higher in Google” and online advertising. I learned a lot there and then chose a follow-up course with minors and internships in online marketing.

3. What did you like so much about it?
Analysing, writing, creative thinking… I really see Online Marketing as a combination of these three elements. And these are exactly the things I enjoy and am good at. So it’s not that surprising that I chose this profession.
4. And if you could pick just one of those three?
Then I’d choose analysing. I love diving into the results and testing. Online Marketing is easy to measure and it’s relatively simple to measure the returns from the various channels and campaigns. Improving and optimising this is what I find truly great.
5. And how did it eventually end with the bathroom furniture webshop?
Uh, I’d rather not talk about that anymore :D. Let’s put it this way, it no longer exists, but it was in any case very educational for me. With a lot of pain and effort we got the long-awaited visitors to the website, but they didn’t buy anything. We tried a lot, but I think the combination of not having a showroom and a very long delivery time broke us.
6. Our clients do like to have success. Do you have experience with this too?
Sure do, during and after my studies I was involved in various projects that did become a success. During my internships too, I achieved success for clients and experienced that as an online marketer you can really make the difference. I’ve now been Google-certified for Adwords and Analytics for a few years. What gets me most excited is the blog by backlinko.
7. Right, and have you only ever worked in Online Marketing so far?
Haha, a nasty question. No. I was an economics teacher for a few months. Because besides marketing I also enjoy advising/teaching, I chose that when I got the chance. However, I missed marketing too much, so at some point I decided to stop.
8. Say I’m a client and I’d like to get more leads out of my website. How would you approach this?
The first step is to determine where the most gains can be made. What’s the interaction like on the website? Maybe you already have a lot of visitors, but they seek little contact through the website. Through calls to action, mouse tracking and A/B testing we can first optimise that….
9. Uh, Mouse tracking???
Yes, then we review the behaviour per visitor and track precisely where the mouse moved and what was clicked on. This is very useful for measuring the user experience.
But it could also be that the first priority should be that the website is found better, in which case we’ll optimise that.
The first step could also be to start advertising on Google. This still has a high return for many websites. There are often big opportunities among the many social media channels, or how about email marketing.
10. And can you do all of this???
Well, my colleague Marco is more at home in the area of Social Media and content creation. My focus is on advertising, making analyses and SEO. So we complement each other well…
The 11th question is for the readers…. Do you have a question for Reinoud in the field of Online Marketing? He’ll happily answer it. So don’t wait and ask your question in the comments!
