10 practical tips to get more out of your website.
You have a nice website and now want to get more success out of it. But can that be done without technical knowledge? I hear you thinking. Well, it certainly can! Just take a look at the following 10 practical tips to get more out of your website:
1. Good copy
Write content-rich web texts about relevant topics that are searched for a lot. Make sure the texts are pleasant to read and contain useful information. Use images and/or a video where you can to strengthen the story. Google loves this. If you do this well, you’ll become more findable on important topics.

2. Links to your website
Ask other companies to link to your website. Google likes to see that trustworthy websites link to you, because then it knows your website is trustworthy and valuable too. Watch out here for pages with hundreds of links and websites that want you to pay for a link. Google can even penalise you for this. But look, for instance, for partners or suppliers who are willing to link to you.
3. Meta data
Make sure you’ve filled in the meta data properly on all pages. This lets you indicate what you want shown in the Google results. Don’t make the title and description too long, otherwise search engines will cut them off. A good title is around 55 characters (but no longer than 66 in any case) and a good meta description around 140 characters (no longer than 155).

4. Analyse your results
Keep an eye on your website’s results. Through Google Analytics you can see exactly where your visitors come from and what they do on your website. You can then respond to that. See, for example, that most revenue comes through a certain channel? Then you can focus more on that.

5. Focus on your target audience
Keep the focus on your target audience. If you’re targeting young visitors, don’t write formally. Have a restaurant or something similar? Then focus extra on mobile traffic. If a page gets a lot of mobile visits, an autoplaying video isn’t really a good option. In short: think about what your target audience needs in terms of experience and information, and set up your website or webshop accordingly.
6. Think of a goal for each page
Think about what you want to achieve with each page. Do you, for instance, want visitors to go to your contact details, place an order, or see what you offer? Once this is clear you can steer your visitors towards it. Always assume that any page could be a landing page. A visitor could, for example, also arrive via Google on a page other than your homepage. In that case, that page is the landing page for the visitor at that moment.
7. Calls to action
Written a text about a certain topic hoping someone will request a quote? Then make sure they can click straight through to where they can request that quote. Call for action here. The text “Request a quote here” activates the reader and increases the chance that it actually happens. Always put yourself in your visitor’s shoes. How could you persuade them to take action.

8. Make it clear why visitors should choose you
Communicate the advantages of your service or product. What makes you special? Is it fast delivery, being complete, specialist, service, etc. These “unique selling points” need to come across clearly on your website and in your texts.

9. Radiate reliability
Give customers the chance to leave reviews, for instance. Preferably on an independent review website such as Trustpilot or Klantenvertellen. This lets visitors see that you’re a trustworthy party. You can link those results to your own website. After all, always remember that a visitor doesn’t know you. You can also radiate trust by showing more of yourself. Show who’s behind the company, who the employees are, what the location looks like. Always use your own imagery for this and not stock photos of employees who already work at thousands of companies 😉

10. Bind your customers.
It’s cheaper to get a customer to come back than to win a new one. Keep them informed of offers, give them a discount or a little extra, in any case take good care of them. Then they’ll also become ambassadors for your company.
Good, those were ten tips you can get started with practically. You probably already knew some of them, but repetition can’t hurt. For more short tips you can also check out our SEO tips for 2017. Good luck!
